About

For many years Salisbury District Council has enabled hundreds of residents from all walks of life to work their own piece of land and enjoy the fruits of their labour. The Salisbury Allotment Association is an independent group made up of allotment tenants who aim to represent the various sites on issues relating to allotments and to act as a representative body for the council to liaise and consult with. The association was re-formed at an open meeting held on November 28th 2006. The meeting was attended by almost 100 people from all the allotment sites in the city. Salisbury District Council supported the formation of the association with a one off payment of £750 to help with set up costs.  Officers and a committee were elected  and set out three hopeful aims for the Association.

1. Secure premises for the Association.

2. Form an allotment watch scheme.

3. Arrange a horticultural show.

The first task was to secure premises so we could offer our members the opportunity to purchase all their gardening needs at very competitive rates. The allotment headquarters is located next to Coldharbour allotments and is open every weekend morning from late January till September. The building is run with the help of committee members who are all volunteers.  It is managed by John Hunt with the help of John Toon and the shop is manned by committee members on a rota basis.

The second task was to form an Allotment Watch Scheme. This has successfully been achieved with the help of Wiltshire Police and Salisbury District Council.

We succeeded in setting up a horticultural show for our members. The first one  was held on the 18th August  2007 at St Michaels Hall Bemerton Heath.   The show was a great success and was followed a year later by the 2nd Show.     This proved to be even bigger and better than the first!    The 3rd Annual Summer Horticultural Show is due to take place on 8th August 2009 in St Michael’s Hall, Bemerton Heath as in previous years.   Schedules now available from the shop and committee members.
